Beginner Sewing Projects Anyone Can Make in One Afternoon

It’s time to dust off that sewing machine you’ve been saving for “that project” you’ve been meaning to start. If you’re anything like me, the ideas pile up and somehow none of them get finished. To inspire both you (and myself!) to finally create, I’ve gathered a handful of beginner (ish) friendly sewing projects that can easily be made in just one afternoon.. or even during naptime.

Because honestly, sewing isn’t the hard part, it’s simply getting started. So let’s dive in and make something beautiful together!

quilted witch hat

I know when you hear “quilted” you might think, um, no thanks. But hear me out: you don’t even need to quilt! These days, you can find old cutter quilts at thrift stores, estate sales, or even on Facebook Marketplace, and turn them into something you love. A lot of makers are doing this, and some even sell their creations now. Since it’s spooky season, I thought this would be such a fun project to try, and honestly, it’s one I’ve been wanting to make myself!

Pj pants

These are so quick and easy to make and you can make them for everyone in your family. You may not even need a pattern since you most likely already have PJ pants at home you can use to trace a pattern with. I found a post on Pinterest that details all the instructions!

hot tool mat

This mat is super cute and perfect for your vanity or bathroom to protect any surfaces from getting makeup on them or being melted by hot tools. I found this video on youtube that gives you a full tutorial and I’m sure you can add some heat resistant cotton in between the fabrics to prevent damage to the material.

christmas tree ornaments

I know, I know, it hasn’t even been Halloween yet! But it’s never to early to get started on some projects for the holidays. December has a way of sneaking up on us, and before you know it, the season is here and time has slipped away. Starting now means less stress later, and more time to enjoy the little things that make the holidays so special.

Pot HOlders

Potholders make such thoughtful gifts, and the best part is.. they’re simple and quick to whip up. They’re perfect for the hostess in your life, or even just for your own kitchen (because somehow I always need a potholder and never seem to have enough on hand!). This project is definitely on my to make list this season.

Bowl Covers

These bowl covers are such an easy project, and honestly, so handy to have around. If you’re constantly hunting for missing lids, need to cover bowls while you’re outside, or want something to keep dough safe while it’s rising, these are a perfect solution. Simple, reusable, and cute. They’re definitely a project worth making!

Will you be trying any of these patterns/projects?
